Recently I've had a wierd bug to get down
into the Silo Tunnel of the Avoca site to see what is down there and
to access the silo to see were the water level is. Since the stairs are
gone to access this level I have been trying to think of a way to get
down there and get back up safely. I think I have found
a way. I am going
to rappel down. After doing some research on the subject basically its
a part of rock climbing. I have aquired a fasination with the sport and
am looking for other hobbies to do in my spare
time. Unfortunatly there
don't seem to be any big rocks in Nebraska. I'm still going to aquire
the gear I need to get down into this old missile silo. So far this is the
equipmant I have so far. I purchased a Harness for myself. There are
so many of them out there from different manufactures and Black
Diamond seems to be a real good one. I decided to go with them for
most of my gear. This is the harness I picked out. It is a Momentum
AL XL size.

I have also purchased a Super
8 for the rappel device.
.
and also a Carabiner to
hook the super 8 to my harness.

I think I will need a few more of these, I need one to hook in the
hole where the old beam was bolted to the ceiling.

Rope is something else I need to get
and at $1.00 per ft. I'm probably going to need 80-90 ft for the rappel
I think just to be on the safe side.

It's fun to learn something new and when it comes to getting kewl new
tools I'm for all that. I've got to take a climbing course at the University
just so I'm familiar with the basics. It's a 2hr course and is 20.00
to take it. Be a good father / son thing to do with my oldest son.
